Initially, Terri Hayes welcomed us into her art store to share space and the first Mass was said at the Art Shop in Indian Wells on February 7th, 2000. When rent became too high, the Community moved with Terri Hayes to Sage Street in Palm Desert on June 1st, 2000. Then rent was increased and we were offered space at Temple Sinai in Palm Desert, a generous and unsolicited offer by Rabbi Paul Citrin. We moved on June 1st, 2001. Our last Mass was on Christmas, 2002. Then we had Sunday Mass at the home of Kevin McCarthy and weekday Mass at Ned Reidy's condo.
On April 13th, 2003, while renting space, we had a glorious celebration of Palm Sunday at our permanent location, 78-145 Avenue 42 in Bermuda Dunes. On July 1st of 2003, we became the owners of this hacienda on 1.3 acres for a purchase price of $400,000. It was because of Ned Reidy's donation and the sale of the land which had been paid for by ten to twelve parishoners, that the purchase was accomplished. Fund-raisers continue now and then to further reduce the mortgage. Friends for Funds is a group dedicated to this and set up by Suzie Smith.
Sacraments:
Sunday Masses had been at 10:00am and then 10:30am. In the beginning, we also offered a 5:00pm Mass on Sunday. We always have had a 5:00pm or 5:30pm Mass on Monday through Thursday, until the Spring of 2000 when attendance waned.
On March 25, 2000, Kathy McCarthy was ordained a Deacon.
Easter, 2000, there was one baptism, Rebecca Mata.
On June 11th, 2000, Pentecost, Kathy McCarthy was ordained a priest using St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in Palm Desert with 300-350 in attendance. Ever after that, she and Father Ned have alternated all Masses.
Easter of 2001, there were 4 Baptisms, 6 First Communions, and one Confirmation, and every year since there have been folks ready for these Sacraments.
In the Fall of 2001, Charles Burns joined us as our permanent Deacon.
In November of 2003, Kathleen Jess came as an apprentice preparing for priestly ordination. She became a Deacon in September of 2004 and was ordained a priest October 8th, 2005.
